About Us
Norfolk Seaquest is a voluntary group exploring and recording the marine life of The Wash and North Norfolk coast. We study and identify areas of special interest and use information gathered to increase our awareness of the special nature of the area. From the information gathered over the years we have been able to build up a picture of the marine life to be found from shore to the deeps of the Southern North Sea and notice any changes that occur.
- Norfolk is a special place for a wide variety of marine wildlife for people who live and work here as well as for people visiting the area. Members of the group are involved in working along the coast, for example in the fishing industry, HM coastguards or local business enterprises. Members also enjoy their leisure time exploring the undersea world and shores of Norfolk and work towards promoting and protecting the environment of the Norfolk coast.
- Group activities fall into 3 categories : Scuba diving surveys, Shorewatch beach walks and Fishing news. We also take part in the adopt-a-beach litter surveys at various sites including Heacham and Stiffkey. The aim is to encourage more people of all ages to get involved in the marine environment and join in with marine recording. We work alongside other conservation bodies such as the Norfolk Biodiversity Partnership, The Marine Conservation Society and local wildlife trusts.
- We are supported by North Norfolk Divers (BSAC 1151) and have received funding from Natural England.
